Bridge mishap: 2 bodies found, injured dies, toll put at 43

Two more bodies were recovered on Saturday from the debris while a person injured in the accident died at a hospital taking the toll in the collapse of a bridge over Chambal river here to 43.

Kota: Two more bodies were recovered on Saturday from the debris while a person injured in the accident died at a hospital taking the toll in the collapse of a bridge over Chambal river here to 43, even as efforts went on to extricate the remaining five persons from under the rubble.

The body of a 20-year-old youth was recovered from the debris at noon today and another body was extricated in the evening while a labourer injured in the accident died at a private hospital taking the toll in the tragedy to 43, District Collector T Ravikant said.
The rescuers are busy trying to recover the five persons still trapped under the debris.

Meanwhile, two arrested officials including Chief Project Manager of Hyundai Engineering and Construction and Deputy Project Manager of Gammon India, were produced before the court which sent them to police custody till January 4 in connection with the incident.

However, despite over a week since the accident occurred there has been no official comment on the reasons that led to the mishap.
While Secretary Disaster Management & Relief Department Tanmay Kumar is on leave, his deputy refused to say any thing on the matter referring it to secretary Rural Development and Panchyatiraj Alok Kumar who said he is just holding the charge of the department in the absence of Tanmay Kumar who may say something on the matter when he returns.
