Clerics bodies get major share of Zardari`s donation

Ajmer: The two separate bodies of clerics associated with the shrine of sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti got a lion`s share of the one million dollar donation made by Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari.
Pakistan High Commissioner to India Salman Bashir presented the cheques of the donation amount to the Dargah Committee, a government-appointed body for management of the 13th-century shrine, and two Anjuman committees of Khadims (clerics) here yesterday.
Anjuman Saiyad Zadgan and Anjuman Shekh Zadgan got Rs. 3 crore and Rs. 1 crore respectively while the share of Dargah committee is Rs. 1.47 crore.
Notwithstanding the rivalry between the bodies of the Khadims and the Dargah committee, receivers of the donation have promised to utilize the money for different developmental projects and welfare activities.
The bodies of Khadims were against involvement of the Dargah committee in share of the money but the matter was resolved prior to the function yesterday.
"The share was decided with the consent of all the three parties at a closed-door meeting between the members of the delegation from the Pakistan High Commission and the representatives of the bodies yesterday," sources said.
"The money will be used for developmental work like maintenance of guest houses, developing facilities for Zayrines (pilgrims), help for widows and for education of under-priviledged children and needy people," Wahid Hussain Chisti, Secretary of Anjuman Saiyad Zadgan, told PTI .
"We have promised the Pakistan High Commission that the money will be well utilised in welfare activies we undertake," he said.
Asked about the share of the two Khadims who had
performed Ziyarat for Zardari during his visit to the shrine in April this year, he said it has not beeen decided so far.
"It is the money of Anjuman and not of any individual and what will be the share of the Khadims of the Pak President from this donation will be decided later," he said.
Iqbal Kaptan, who along with another Khadim Natik Chisty, had performed the `ziyarat` for Zardari on April 8, also said that the money will primarily go to Anjuman and their shares will be decided by the Anjuman committees later.
Sources said Khadims normally get 80 per cent and Anjuman committee keeps 20 per cent of such offering/donation.
A representative of the other body Anjuman Shekh Zadgan, Shekh Zulfikar Chisti, also said the money will be used for welfare of people and development of facilities for visiting pilgrims. This body has got Rs. 1 crore as its share.
"The Anjuman committee helps widows, patients, elderly people and those in need and this money will be used for them besides development of facilities for pilgrims and other similar activities," he said.
President of Dargah committee, Sohail Ahmed Khan, declined to comment when asked what will be the priorities of the committee to utilise the donation money.
