Jaipur: The Congress and BJP on Saturday engaged in a war of words over the deluge that has claimed 33 lives in parts of Rajasthan with both the parties criticising the other on its conduct.
Targeting Leader of Opposition Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot accused her of spending time in London, Delhi or Dehradun instead of being among the public of the state.
"She should have come here and visited the areas facing flood-like situation," he said on the sidelines of an event here.
"BJP has no moral right to blame the government. The Governor visited the affected area here. Our minister, Mayor and MP also visited the areas. MLAs, MPs and the entire government is occupied and proper arrangements have been made," Gehlot told reporters.
The situation was being monitored daily at his and the Chief Secretary`s level and the Army was roped in yesterday for relief work, which started in time, he said.
Countering Gehlot`s charge on Raje, BJP said she was in London for personal reasons and questioned why the Chief Minister had not taken round of the localities which faced the brunt of the rainfall.
"Heavy rains caused devastation in many areas but Chief Minister did not go to any of these areas.
Raje is in London for personal reasons but the Chief Minister was in Jaipur then why he did not go and meet the affected people in the last four days?" BJP`s state president Arun Chaturvedi asked.
"The Governor visited the affected area here which was an appreciable gesture, but where was the Chief Minister?" he asked.
