Cong MLA Ramnarayan Meena elected Dy speaker

Congress MLA Ramnarayan Meena was unanimously elected Deputy Speaker of the Rajasthan Assembly.

Jaipur: Congress MLA Ramnarayan Meena was on Wednesday unanimously elected Deputy Speaker of the Rajasthan Assembly, a post which had been lying vacant since the formation of the present government in December 2008.

After the Question Hour, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot proposed the name of Meena which was seconded by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal. The name of Meena was also proposed by three other members and seconded by others.

After the proposal was passed unanimously, Speaker D S Shekhawat announced that Meena was the Deputy Speaker of the House.

Proposals regarding nomination of Congress candidate Ramnarayan Meena and Jeevaram Chaudhary (independent) were submitted yesterday.
However, Chaudhary`s nomination was withdrawn last evening and Meena was the only candidate for the post.

The Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Vasundhara Raje both congratulated Meena and expressed hope that he will contribute in maintaining good and cordial atmosphere in the House.
