Diaspora has more to give to build modern India: PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday said the government would encourage them and lauded the influence and impact of the "global Indian".

Jaipur: Asking the diaspora to contribute more
to build a modern India, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday
said the government would encourage them and lauded the
influence and impact of the "global Indian".

Addressing the 10th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas here, Singh
said this decade has been marked by a visible accretion in the
influence and impact of the global Indian across the world.

"We believe that the Indian diaspora has much more to
contribute to the building of modern India. We propose to
facilitate, encourage and promote this engagement," he told
Persons of Indian Origin and Non-Resident Indians here.

Singh said India has witnessed a steady growth in the
number of overseas Indians, levels of prosperity and their
skills.

He also listed the number of initiatives undertaken by the
government like voting rights for NRIs and the new Pension and
Insurance Scheme among others.

Singh said the "global Indian" is a symbol of the
diversity of our ancient land.

"Your individual prosperity and personal achievement are a
symbol of what a diverse people like us can achieve," he said.
