Jaipur: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday arrested former Rajasthan minister Babulal Nagar, who is accused of raping and assaulting a 35-year-old woman.

"Nagar, accused of raping and assaulting a 35 year-old woman, was arrested around 6 pm after about six hours of examination. He is being taken for medical examination and then shall be detained in the CBI`s Jaipur office," said a CBI official.

"Nagar will be produced in court tomorrow (Saturday)," he said.

In a statement, the minister, meanwhile, admitted having physical relations with the woman, but denied rape charges.

He added that the CBI has arrested him merely on the basis of the allegations made by the woman.

In a statement, the CBI said: "A case was registered by CBI on October 08 against the former minister U/S 323 & 376 of IPC on the request of Rajasthan government and further notification from the government of India".

"This case relates to allegations levelled by the complainant (victim) against the accused for causing hurt and committing rape on September 11," the statement said.
The Sodala Police station had booked Nagar for allegedly raping and beating up the woman on September 11, after calling her to his official bungalow in Jaipur on the pretext of giving her a job.

The CBI on October 9 took over the probe from the Rajasthan Police which had registered the case against Nagar, following which he resigned as the Minister of Dairy, Khadi and Rural Industries.

Earlier, the CBI team had conducted forensic examination of the official residence of Nagar, where he had allegedly raped the woman.

The CBI team had also recorded the statement of the victim at her residence.

Nagar, who tendered his resignation as minister, was suspended from Congress by the party high command last month.
