Jaipur: Filing of nomination papers for the August 17 elections to 129 civic bodies (municipal) will begin on Saturday.
The process of filing of nomination papers will begin with an official notification and will go on till August 5 in the concerned municipal bodies, an official spokesman said here on Friday quoting state Election Commissioner Ramlubhaya.
The last date of filing nomination would be August 5, scrutiny of nominations would be held on August 6, last date of withdrawal of nominations would be August 8, allotment of election symbols on August 9, he said.
The polling will be held on August 17 from 7 am to 5 pm, counting of votes on August 20, and election for chairperson will be on August 21 and for deputy chairperson on August 22, the spokesman said.
As many as 37.12 lakh voters, including 17.77 lakh female electors, would cast their votes in 3351 wards of 129 municipal bodies, including Ajmer Municipal Corporation, he said.
For the first time, only those who have passed class X will be eligible to contest polls as the state government had passed an ordinance to this effect on the eve of this set of polls, he said.
Contestants have to submit an undertaking stating that they have a toilet at their homes with three walls, a door and roof, according to the ordinance. They will also submit a proforma, saying that there is no one in family who goes out for open defecation, the spokesman added.
