Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok
Gehlot on Thursday said his government is committed to give quotas
to Gujjars and Economically Backward Classes but cannot go
ahead with the move at present as the matter is sub-judice.

"We are committed in principle to give reservation to
Gujjars and EBCs but it is not possible as of now to allocate
quota to them as the matter is sub-judice," Gehlot told
reporters here.

Expressing his government`s support to Gujjars` demand he
said once the high court gave its verdict on the issue the
matter will be sorted out in consultation with representatives
of different communities.

However, the government is finding out ways to implement
reservation for Gujjars and EBCs on the pattern of Maharashtra
where it exceeds the 52 per cent ceiling, he said.

Gehlot urged the agitating Gujjars to maintain peace
and harmony and wait for the court`s verdict in the interest
of the state.
