Alwar: Setting an example, a gram panchayat here has announced to award a fixed deposit of certain amount on the birth of every girl child.
A gram panchayat in Behror last month has awarded FD (for 20 years) of Rs 1,100 each in the names of five girl children.
"We decided to award Rs 1,100 on the birth of first girl child and Rs 2,100 on second girl's birth to create a favourable environment for girl child in the form of the FD," village head Rama Bharadwaj told reporters here today.
"Around the same time, four girls were born in Bardod health centre on September 18 and a girl was born later. All the five cases were taken up for the award of Rs 1,100 each," she said.
