Jaipur: At a time when the Rajasthan Government is grappling with reservation for Gujjars, the ruling Congress today demanded a hike in OBC quota from 21 to 27 per cent on the basis of population.

"OBC includes 52 per cent of total casts and hence 21 per cent quota is not sufficient at all," PCC vice-president Chandrabhan said in a meeting of its OBC Chamber here.

The OBC's of the state should get 27 per cent reservation on par with Centre's policy.

"Representation of OBCs in education is less and that is why their number is less in government services," Ashok Tanwar, Chamber's state president said.

The government's plans to grant 5 per cent reservation for Gujjars in government jobs and educational institutions has hit a road block after the High Court stayed the measure as it would cross the total quota cap of 50 per cent. A committee appointed by the HC has, however, endorsed the reservation.
