Jaipur: The CB-CID has arrested a police inspector, who along with a head constable had allegedly attempted to sexually harass a girl in a city police station.
SHO, Pratap Nagar, Ramnivas Vishnoi appeared before the agency yesterday and was arrested after interrogation late last night, official sources said today.
Head Constable Lal Chand, who is also an accused in the case, is absconding.
Following the alleged incident last month, the girl had attempted to commit suicide by jumping before a train but survived with critical injuries.
After the incident came to light, the state government had suspended both the policemen and announced a financial help of Rs 10 lakh for the victim.
Rights activists had staged a protest here yesterday demanding the arrest of the two policemen.
The girl had accused the SHO and Head Constable of attempting to harass her sexually in the name of questioning after one of her friends went missing.
"Neither the girl was an accused nor any prior notice was served to her for interrogation. She was called at the police station and policemen tried to harass her sexually," Kavita Srivastava, a women rights activist, had alleged.
