Minor girl attacked by jilted lover in school

A 23-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly attacking a minor girl student at her school at Golkund in the district, police said on Thursday.

Jajpur: A 23-year-old youth was arrested for allegedly attacking a minor girl student at her school at Golkund in the district, police said on Thursday.

The 15-year-old victim was stabbed by the accused identified as Deepak, purportedly her jilted lover, in the school premises during lunch break on Monday last.
The seriously injured girl sustaining multiple wounds was rushed to a local government hospital and later shifted to district headquarters hospital.

Deepak was arrested from Bari area yesterday, and a knife used in the crime and love letters written to the girl was seized from him, they said.
Both the victim and the accused are residents of Katara village and happened to be distant relatives.

The accused was having a one-sided love affair with the girl, police said.

According to the FIR filed with Bari police by the headmaster of the school, Deepak trespassed into the school at about 1.45 pm on Monday during the recess. He then chatted with the girl for some time there before whipping out a knife and attacking her with it.

"The girl screamed for help and ran into the teachers` common room following the attack. The accused even dared to attack the girl before the teachers present in the teachers` common room of the school," said Madhav Swain, Headmaster of the High School in his FIR. After attacking the girl, the accused managed to flee.

The headmaster filed his written complaint with the local police on Monday evening.

Deepak had been trying to woo the girl for over six months, but in vain, Sitikantha Kanungo, Inspector-in-charge of Bari police station said.
