Over 10,000 candidates are left in fray in the polls to 126 civic bodies slated for August 18 in Rajasthan as the last date of withdrawal of nominations ended today.

Rajasthan as the last date of withdrawal of nominations ended
today.

A state election commission spokesman said more than
34.69 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in
around 4,142 polling stations.

He said that as per the tentative figures, 10,066
candidates are vying in 3096 wards and 700 for chairmen`s
posts in 126 civic bodies.

The number of candidates would come down as the data of
withdrawal of nominations were being compiled in remote towns,
he said.

Polling will be held to elect members to one municipal
corporation, two municipal councils and 123 municipal boards.

Counting of votes will be held on August 20.

Election for vice-chairmen and deputy mayors will be held
on August 21.

Over 35,000 EVMs will be used for the polls, the
spokesman said.
