PM Narendra Modi congratulates Rajasthan BJP leaders on civic polls win

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday congratulated party workers and leaders on the BJP`s commendable performance in the Rajasthan civic polls.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday congratulated party workers and leaders on the BJP`s commendable performance in the Rajasthan civic polls.

"A big thank you to people of Rajasthan. Congrats to Rajasthan BJP workers and leaders on the commendable performance in the civic polls," Modi said in a tweet.

BJP chief Shah congratulated Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and slammed the Congress for its negative politics.

"This mandate is against anti-development and negative politics of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi. This is also against their politics of baseless allegations. The win reflects the truth," Shah said in a statement.

"There is anger among the masses against anti-development politics of the Congress. The people`s court has rejected the baseless allegations of the Congress. The Congress party needs to do serious introspection," he added.

Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad termed the party`s victory in Rajasthan civic polls and recent Madhya Pradesh local body elections as an effective reply by the people to Congress malicious campaign against the chief ministers in the Lalit Modi controversy and the Vyapam scam.

"The Congress had unleashed a campaign of calumny against (Madhya Pradesh chief minister) Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Raje which has been rejected by the people," Prasad said in a press conference at party headquarters here.

"The civic poll results are people`s verdict on good governance and development work in the state," Prasad said.

He also questioned why Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who is commenting on every issue now a days, is silent on the poll outcomes.

The BJP secured a clear-cut majority in 67 of the 129 civic bodies in Rajasthan where elections were held earlier in the week while the opposition Congress won a majority of wards only in 33 bodies.

These results have come after Congress party`s allegations against Raje of favouring former IPL chief Lalit Modi which kicked off a political storm.
