Jaipur: The nomination process for the second phase of the three-phased Panchayat polls started today with the issuance of its notification.
The nomination for second phase of Panchayat polls slated for January 22 started today with the issuance of its notification, an official of Rajasthan State Election Commission said.
Filing of nomination papers for Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti members would be allowed till January 12 from 11 AM to 3 PM, the official said.
While the scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on January 13, the last date for withdrawal of nomination is January 14.
The notification for Sarpanch and Panch's polls under second phase would be released on January 22.
A total of 347 Zila Parishad members and 2167 Panchayat Samiti members will be elected in the second phase.
Altogether 3503 Sarpanch, and 38272 Panch would be elected on January 24.
In the first phase of polls slated for January 16, a total of 1012 candidates are in the fray to elect 412 Zila Parishad ward members, and 5799 candidates in fray to elect 2305 Panchayat Samiti members.
The nomination process for first phase poll ended yesterday which was also the last date for withdrawal of nominations.
A total of 36,844 polling booths have been set up in the state for the polls and EVM machines will be used in 16 out of 33 districts, while ballots will be used in remaining districts.
In the entire three phase polls, 6,258 Panchayat Samiti members, 9,872 Sarpanch and 10,9469 Panch would be elected.
Over 3.28 crore voters are eligible for exercising their franchise.
Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti polls are held on political parties' symbols, while Sarpanch and Panch polls on non-political basis.
