Southwest monsoon arrives ahead of schedule in Rajasthan

Southwest monsoon on Thursday entered Rajasthan some five days before its normal date of arrival.

The monsoon entered through southeast Rajasthan and activated in Udaipur region with local MeT officials saying that the conditions are favourable for its further advance. The usual date for arrival of monsoon in the state is June 18.

More areas of the state would be covered by the monsoon over the coming couple of days or so.

Several parts of the state received light to moderate rainfall in the last 24 hours with Balesar and Shergarh towns each recording 9-cm rainfall.

Shambugarh received 6-cm while many other areas reported between 1 to 5-cm rainfall.

The showers brought down day temperatures with Churu recording the highest temperature in the state at 40.3 degrees Celsius.

Weather conditions will remain the same with rain or thundershowers likely at a few places in southern, and over isolated areas in northern, Rajasthan in the coming 24 hours.
