Coimbatore: Going green, the Avinashilingam University for Women here Tuesday launched a solar power grid project, under the 12th Plan of University Grants Commission, for 100 KVA power generation.
The initiative was taken to reduce the carbon foot-print and save on power bill, University Vice-Chancellor Sheela Ramachandran said.
The university power requirement is 300 to 350 KVA per day.
The project, inaugurated by UGC Vice-Chairman Prof H Devaraj, was expected to result in savings of Rs.10.08 lakh per annum, the Vice-Chancellor said.
