New Delhi: Google India on late Monday night dedicated a special doodle - with the picture of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar at the center of it - on the occasion of the 124th birth anniversary of this great leader who is also known as a 'Dalit icon'.

To mark his birthday, Google changed its doodle to a new one dedicated specially to one of the stalwarts of India's freedom movement, Dr Ambedkar.

Fondly known as Babasaheb, was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer who inspired the Modern Buddhist Movement and campaigned against social discrimination of Dalits, women and labour.

Many universities in India were also named after Dr BR Ambedkar.

Earlier today, BJP president Amit Shah has also given guidelines to follow Ambedkar’s idea to the workers of the party.

A great social reformer, Dr Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891 at Mhow in Madhya Pradesh. He dedicated his entire life for the uplifting of the deprived sections of society.

As a member of the Constitution-drafting committee, Ambedkar provided constitutional guarantees and protections for a wide range of civil liberties for individual citizens. This included the right to freedom of religion, the abolition of untouchability and the outlawing of all forms of discrimination.
