The Japanese arm of Dole, the biggest fruit and vegetable company in the world has created the first "edible wearable", a smart banana that will be GPS-powered connected to a separate device that will be used by runners at the Tokyo marathon next week.

Washington: The Japanese arm of Dole, the biggest fruit and vegetable company in the world has created the first "edible wearable", a smart banana that will be GPS-powered connected to a separate device that will be used by runners at the Tokyo marathon next week.

According to the Verge, the new bizarre banana will use an LED display to show race times, heart rate, and messages of encouragement that spectators can send via Twitter.

The runners will require to carry the separate device to which the banana will be connected and they will be able to eat the fruit once the race is over.

The banana first will be peeled so the content inside can be removed and then released after an LED display and a smaller banana is put inside, said a spokesman.
