Shillong: Meghalaya is likely to be the first state in the country to have its Data Centre on Cloud technology with the completion of the first round of Universal Digital Literacy programme of the Government of India, Chief Secretary P Barkos Oflyn Warji said Friday.

"Meghalaya may perhaps become the first state in the country with its State Data Centre on Cloud technology," Warjri said while inaugurating a workshop on Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) here.

He said he was happy to note that the Information Technology Department has already completed the first round of Universal Digital Literacy programme and planning for the second phase.

Warjri said the government has distributed free Tablet PCs to about 25,000 class XII students last year and has plans to do it again this year.

He said 70 acres of land have been allotted for setting up of IT Park at New Shillong Township, wherein adequate space for BPOs would be available.
