The first test tube baby of India is now a proud mother of a healthy baby boy. Harsha Chawda, now 29, was born on 6th August 1986 by in vitro fertilization (IVF).

On Monday morning she gave birth to a healthy newborn at Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai under the supervision of Dr. Indira Hinduja and Dr. Kusum Zaveri.  Co-incidentally the team that delivered Harsha's baby was the same team that operated her mother back in 1986. Harsha conceived naturally and her healthy newborn weighed 3.18 kilos.

As per Mid- Day reports, Dr Hinduja confirmed that both mother and child are in good condition.

Dr. Hinduja while reminding the day of Harsha's delivery said that it was a medical marvel at that time. She also discussed the hurdles which they went through while delivering Harsha. "The Test Tube baby technique though in practice in the western world was not established in India until we found success in 1986 with Harsha's birth. We had to take so many permissions—from the Ethics committee of KEM Hospital, the ICMR, etc," she said.

This joyful moment came in Harsha's life an year after she was married to Divyapal Shah, a Mumbai-based accountant.
