Washington: Elon Musk finally unveiled Tesla Energy, the new business arm that is designed to ending mankind's dependence on grid power and switching to solar energy.

According to the TechCrunch, Tesla Energy's first product is ' Powerwall Home Battery,' a stationary battery that can power a household without requiring the grid. It can work for homes, businesses, and even utilities.

The unit is about three feet by four feet in size and six inches thick and comes with integrated heat management and can fit either on the inside or outside of the wall of your home.

The battery is rechargeable lithium-ion, it uses Tesla's existing battery tech.

Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla Energy said in a press conference announcing Tesla Energy, that the existing batteries expensive, unreliable and bad in every way.

Musk also said Tesla's solution is different.

The company's batteries cost USD 3,500 for 10kWh and USD 3,000 for 7kWh.

They can be connected together like regular batteries and up to nine can be stacked up together, to create a strong and reliable power source.

The Tesla Powerwall Battery charges up using solar power and it can also be integrated with the grid to harness excess power and give customers the flexibility to draw power from their own reserve. The batteries recharge in a 'smart' way, saving money by picking low rate periods when electricity is cheapest. The stored solar energy can be used for later purposes when it is required, like at nights and can act as a back-up in the event of a power outage.
