Washington: Scientists are developing a new biometric technique that will allow people to be identified by their body odour.

Researchers at Spain`s Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, in collaboration with tech firm IIia Sistemas SL found that there are recognizable patterns of each person`s body odour that remain steady.

Hence, every person has his/hers own odour which allow his/her identification within a group of people at an accurate rate higher than 85%.
Researchers think this result leads the way to improve personal identification, creating less aggressive ways to identify people than other biometric techniques being used today.

While several biometric techniques like the iris and fingerprint have a low error rate, researchers claim using biometric techniques based on a person`s physical features would increase safety effectiveness.

The research has used a system developed by the IlA- Sistemas SL company that has a high sensitivity to detect volatile elements present in the body odour.
