10 militants killed in US drone strike in NW Pak

The drones targeted Charkhel area of Datta Khel sub-division of North Waziristan Agency.

Peshawar: At least 10 militants were killed on Saturday and five others injured in a US drone strike in the lawless North Waziristan tribal region of northwest Pakistan, officials said.

The drones targeted Charkhel area of Datta Khel sub-division of North Waziristan Agency.

The pilotless spy planes fired three missiles at a house in the area. This was the eighth missile strike in the area in as many days.

The total number of strikes in the region since last month has crossed 30.

North Waziristan is a hot bed of al-Qaeda operatives and Taliban fighters associated with the Haqqani network that are engaged in battle against the US and Nato forces across the border in Afghanistan.

More than 1040 militants have been killed in over 120 drone strikes since August 2008. Those killed include Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud, al-Qaeda`s no 3 Abu Mustafa al-Yazeed and some other top operatives of the terror group.
