Two paramilitary personnel and 15 militants were killed on Friday in fierce clashes in northwest Pakistan, security officials said.

Pakistan, security officials said.

Two Frontier Constabulary personnel were killed when
militants attacked a security check post at Mattani, located
on the outskirts of Peshawar and close to Akka Khel area of
Khyber tribal region, a security official said.

Three paramilitary personnel were injured in the
attack, the official said.

Fifteen militants of the Lashkar-e-Islam group were
killed when security forces carried out an operation in Akka
Khel area, Frontier Corps spokesman Maj Fazlur Rehman said.

Five vehicles used by the militants were destroyed and
a cache of arms and explosives was seized during the
operation.

The Frontier Corps is involved in fighting militants
in areas around Peshawar.

The Lashkar-e-Islam group headed by pro-Taliban
militant Mangal Bagh is active in these areas.

The group has attacked security forces and NATO supply
trucks in the region.
