Dhaka: At least 25 people, including policemen, were injured on Sunday when a group of protesters clashed with security personnel in downtown Dhaka.

Witnesses said at least 25 people including policemen were injured as the clash erupted when police in riot gears entered the Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) complex where the corporation employees were staging a procession during their three-hour pen down strike.

The employees were protesting against a government decision to divide the corporation in two parts to extend better civic services to the residents of the capital of over 10 million people.

"The protesters became angry following a rumor that one of their colleagues was beaten by the police... they chased the policemen hurling brickbats prompting the policemen to retaliate with batons," a photojournalist said.
