Islamabad: Pakistani troops captured 32
militants in Swat and other parts of Malakand division in the
restive northwest, where over 60 insurgents, including a
cousin and a brother-in-law of local Taliban chief Maulana
Fazlullah, also surrendered before security forces, the
military said today.
Troops apprehended 11 militants and recovered three
vehicles during a clearance operation at Tiligram in Swat, a
scenic valley located 160 kms from Islamabad.
Six others were captured when security forces found a
training camp during a search. Four kilograms of explosives
and 200 dummy rifles were also seized from the camp, a
military statement said.
Four suspects were apprehended during a search and
clearance operation at Nawankilli. Security forces captured
two suspects near Fatehpur while five more were caught near
Biakand.
In the former Taliban stronghold of Matta, troops
apprehended a militant and seized two small machine guns and a
huge cache of ammunition.
A local 'lashkar' or tribal militia captured three
militants after a gun battle at Janas Ghunda in Dir, which too
is part of Malakand division.
While troops were clearing the Mian Killi area in Swat,
a soldier suffered minor injuries in an exchange of fire with
militants. Three soldiers were injured during a search and
clearance operation near Lal Qila in Dir.
