Colombo: Sri Lankan police on Friday seized
around 50 kg of heroin, claimed to be the biggest narcotics
haul in the nation, and arrested four persons including a
Pakistani national in this connection.
Police narcotics bureau officials seized dozens of
kilogrammes of heroin inside a container at Colombo port this
morning in a joint operation carried out with the help of
customs, an official said on condition of anonymity.
The exact quantity is yet to be revealed, but the seized
consignment is said to around 50 kg.
The official said four persons, including a Pakistani,
were arrested in this connection.
Sri Lankan law stipulates death penalty for anyone found
guilty of possessing more than 2gm of heroin.
