Colombo: At least 58 Sri Lankans were
arrested while they were allegedly about to board a trawler to
migrate to Australia illegally, police said on Saturday.

The group was arrested in two locations in Colombo and
Negambo, police officials said, adding that there are 12 women
and 6 children among them.

All are residents of northern and eastern provinces of
the country, where three-decades-old Sri Lankan war was
fought.

The trawler was taken into the custody in Chilaw, a
coastal town, 90 kms north of Colombo, they said.

The suspects were produced in court yesterday and
detained for pending further investigation, they added.
