Lahore: A case has been registered against a former chief minister of Pakistan`s Punjab province for his alleged involvement in the kidnapping and murder of an actress to whom he was believed to have married.
Acting on the orders of a judge of the Lahore High Court, police yesterday registered a case against former chief minister Dost Muhammad Khosa and five of his accomplices. Earlier, two other judges had excused themselves from taking up the case against Khosa, a powerful feudal lord who is also a senior leader of the PML-N party that rules Punjab.
Khosa has been accused of kidnapping and murdering actress Sapna by the woman`s father, Misal Khan.
Khosa did not admit marrying Sapna alias Zeba Khan but subsequently confessed having a daughter from her. Khan alleged that Khosa had offered him Rs 7.5 million to not pursue the case.
Surprisingly, police also registered a case against Khan, his sons Ameen and two other persons following a complaint from Khosa.
Sources said this was reportedly done following the intervention of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Ironically, both Khosa and Khan have been accused of kidnapping and killing Sapna and at the same time they are also complainants in the matter.
The unique case has put investigating officers in an odd position due to legal complications, sources said. "It will be rather difficult for an investigating officer to resolve this mystery as another interesting factor of this case is that the police registered two cases about the same incident with almost similar charges," an official said, adding the counter FIR against Khan might help mutually settle the case.
The actress` body is yet to be traced and her family and even the police cannot say with certainty who kidnapped or killed her.
In his FIR, Misal Khan alleged Khosa married his daughter on June 02, 2010 and the family was unaware of the wedding.
Khosa allegedly tortured and misbehaved with Sapna, who gave birth to a girl on February 28, 2011.
Khan further alleged that on June 22 last year, his son Faisal dropped Sapna at the residence of Khosa and she had been missing since then.
