Kabul: A family of five were killed by a
roadside bomb that struck their vehicle in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday, a government official said.
Rohullah Samon, spokesman for Paktia province`s
governor, said the family was driving from Kabul when the
explosion destroyed their car. All the occupants were killed.

The nine-year war has inflicted a mounting toll on
Afghan civilians. The United Nations says insurgents are
responsible for most civilian deaths and injuries. However,
noncombatants are also killed in NATO military operations.
A UN report said more than 1,200 Afghans died and
nearly 2,000 were wounded between January and June this year.
