Kabul: An adviser to Afghan President
Hamid Karzai escaped unhurt from an assassination attempt
on Wednesday when a bomb rigged to a motorcycle detonated near his
car, an official said.

Jan Mohammad Khan, who advises Karzai on tribal
affairs, was travelling in the southern Afghan province of
Uruzgan when the bomb exploded, leaving a child walking nearby
with minor injuries, said provincial governor Khodai Rahim.
"It was a remote-controlled bomb and the target was
Mohammad Khan," Rahim said.

The attack came two days after another presidential
adviser, Waheedullah Sabawoon, was badly wounded in a
suspected assassination attempt when a bomb placed in a
rickshaw exploded, hitting his vehicle.
Uruzgan is a restive mountainous province north of
Helmand and Kandahar provinces, where the core of a
Taliban-led insurgency is being fought.
