Afghan Taliban claim Pakistan hasn`t freed jailed Mullah Baradar as promised

The Afghan Taliban has reportedly said that Pakistan has not freed their former second-in-command, Mullah Baradar as promised and the detained commander`s health is deteriorating in prison.

Karachi: The Afghan Taliban has reportedly said that Pakistan has not freed their former second-in-command, Mullah Baradar as promised and the detained commander`s health is deteriorating in prison.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said that Baradar is still spending his days and nights in prison and his health condition is getting worse day by day.

According to Dawn, Baradar, the most high profile detained Taliban commander in Pakistan, is seen by many in Afghanistan as the key to restarting peace talks with the Afghan Taliban.

Earlier last month, Pakistan released Afghan Taliban`s most senior detainee Abdul Ghani Baradar, a move welcomed by Kabul who hoped it would encourage peace talks with the insurgents, the report added.
