Amunagama appointed as senior Prez adviser in Lanka

Lankan Prez Rajapaksa on Wednesday appointed Sarath Amunagama as his senior adviser in place of his brother Basil Rajapaksa.

Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda
Rajapaksa on Wednesday appointed Sarath Amunagama as his senior
adviser in place of his brother Basil Rajapaksa, who has been
made the Economic Development Minister.

Amunagama also holds the post of Deputy Minister for
Finance and Planning, of which Mahinda Rajapaksa is in-charge.

Amunugama, who was a civil servant, had previously held
many Cabinet portfolios including in Public Administration,
Home Affairs and Investment Promotion departments.

Before entering active politics, he worked as an
International Civil Servant for UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

On April 23, Basil Rajapaksa, who was earlier working as
the senior presidential adviser, was appointed as the Economic
Development Minister, a newly-created portfolio with the
mandate of reviving the war-torn Tamil-dominated northern
areas.
