Around 1,500 Maoists appearing in SLC exams in Nepal

At least 456,719 students, including 1,500 former Maoist rebels appeared for the school leaving certificate (SLC) examination, regarded as iron gate for 10th standard students in Nepal, on Thursday.

Kathmandu: At least 456,719 students,
including 1,500 former Maoist rebels appeared for the school
leaving certificate (SLC) examination, regarded as iron gate
for 10th standard students in Nepal, on Thursday.
"In total 456,719 students including 412,692 regular
students are sitting for SLC this year. This is the highest
number," the Examination Controller at the Office of the
Controller of Examinations said.
"This year government has put in place strict rules to
prevent cheating and other unfair means at the exams. Those
found guilty of supplying answers to the examinees from
outside could be slapped with a fine of Rs 1,00,000 and a
six-month sentence," the Examination Controller added.

Out of 456,719 examinees, 412,692 are regular students
while 1,500 students are appearing for the exam from Maoist
cantonments in Rolpa, Chitawan and Ilam.

There are altogether 1,550 examination centres set up
across Nepal. The examinations will end on April 2.
