Karachi: Atleast eight people have been
killed in separate incidents of firing here over the last few
days as authorities struggle to contain an outbreak of mob
violence over the alleged targeted killings.
Unrest broke out in the city, where several incidents of
killings have been reported, after the body of a young man was
discovered stuffed in a gunny bag today.
The Mutthaida Qaumi Movement, a coalition partner in the
ruling government has claimed that many of its workers had
been gunned down in targeted killings over the last week.
Law enforcement agencies were trying to contain mob
violence today that began after another body was discovered.
While eight persons have been killed, nine others have
been wounded in different incidents of firing in the Garden
Town area of Karachi. Police said they were still trying to
figure out the causes of the killings.
Meanwhile, relatives and friends of the seven people
killed gathered outside the Chief Minister's house today to
protest the killings and demanded action againt the culprits.
Following the firing incidents, shops and business
activities were closed down in the troubled areas.
According to police, the firing incidents began when a
beheaded body was found in Garden area. The deceased was later
identified as Aamir.
In another brazen act, four dacoits looted a gold
jewellery warehouse in an old area of the city and fled with
15 kilogrammes of gold valued at 45 million rupees.
