Bangladesh sentences former minister Abdul Alim for war crime

A former Bangladesh minister, Abdul Alim, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a war tribunal on Wednesday after he was found guilty of war crimes.

Dhaka: A former Bangladesh minister, Abdul Alim, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a war tribunal on Wednesday after he was found guilty of war crimes.

83-year-old Alim is a member of the main opposition party and was found guilty of 17 charges for crimes that took place during the 1971 liberation war.
Apart from Alim, six other current and ex-leaders from the Jamaat-e-Islami party have been convicted also.

Earlier, Bangladesh Nationalist Party MP Salauddin Quader Chowdhury was sentenced to death by the court.
