Colombo: US Assistant Secretary of State
for South Asia Robert Blake today expressed satisfaction with
the government's ongoing resettlement programme for displaced
Tamil civilians in northern Sri Lanka.
Blake, during his visit to Menik Farm in Vavuniya,
also appreciated the new freedom of movement of the displaced
Tamil civilians lodged in camps and said that he was pleased
with the mine risk education being given to students.
The total number of IDPs in Menik Farm has come down
to 94,000 from over 2.60 lakh when the 30-year-old civil war
ended in May, according to estimates.
Blake, who met the civilians and questioned them about
conditions at welfare centres, was told by them that they were
satisfied with the facilities, an official statement said
here.
