A powerful blast hit a residential area in this Pakistani city on Saturday night, injuring at least 12 people including a woman.

Karachi: A powerful blast hit a residential area in this Pakistani city on Saturday night, injuring at least 12 people including a woman.

The bomb weighing about Five kilograms was planted in a bicycle parked near a hotel, police said.

The explosion took place late night near the hotel which is located in Sumangli housing society in residential area Jinnah town.

The blast shattered windows of nearby buildings and houses, local police officer Ahmed Shah said.

Fortunately, the blast took place late night with very less people nearby the hotel. At least 12 people have been injured and rushed to hospital for treatment, Shah said.

The bomb was set off by a timer device, a bomb disposal squad official said.

The troubled Baluchistan province has been rocked by violence by insurgents and by sectarian violence for the last many months.
