Kathmandu: Border security and Tibetan refugees will top the agenda of talks Nepal’s Home Minister Bhim Rawal will have with the Chinese leadership during his week-long visit to Beijing, according to officials here.

Rawal left for Lhasa, Tibet, on his way to Beijing on Saturday, leading an eight-member high-level Nepalese delegation.

He was accompanied by chiefs of all three security agencies -- Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and National Investigation Department.

Border security and Tibetan refugees issue will prominently figure during his meetings in Beijing, a Home Ministry official said.

During the talks, the two sides will also outline a "joint strategy" for effective implementation of Nepal's commitment to one-China policy.

"We will hold talks with Chinese officials, with the focus on a joint strategy for the implementation of our commitment to one-China policy," Rawal told reporters at the Tribhuvan International Airport before his departure to Lhasa.

Beijing has expressed concern over anti-China protests being staged here by Tibetan exiles and urged Nepal to make "extra efforts" to curb such activities. Rawal will also seek Chinese assistance, especially logistic and communications equipment, for effective implementation of the Special Security Plan in Kathmandu and other major cities.

He will urge China to help establish an academy and training centre for the Armed Police Force, the paramilitary organisation, officials said.

Nepal is also considering deploying additional security posts in Mustang and Manang areas along the Chinese border as per the request made by China, they said.
