Kathmandu: Cadres of Nepal Communist Party on Sunday clashed with the police during a protest demonstration against Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun at the country's only international airport here, leading to injuries to at least a dozen activists.

Activists of the Youth Association Nepal (YAN), the youth wing of second largest opposition party CPN-UML, waved black flags and shouted slogans against Pun in protests against against alleged misappropriation of funds, according to eye-witnesses.

At least a dozen cadres of YAN sustained injuries and half-a-dozen vehicles were damaged as they clashed with the police at Tribhuvan International Airport.

Some window panes at the airport's international terminal were smashed and half a dozen tourist vehicles were damaged during the clashes between the YAN cadres and the police, according to police.

The YAN has claimed that Finance Ministry has established the Self Employment Fund for the unemployed youths. It has been found to be misappropriated as the fund was being distributed on the recommendation of the Maoist party, they alleged.

YAN Chairman Mahesh Basnet in a press statement warned of a massive protest against the irregularities.

Last week, police detained the YAN cadres for several hours after they vandalised the Self Employment Fund office in Kathmandu.
