Court throws out Afghan MPs over alleged fraud

Kabul: A special tribunal in Afghanistan has begun throwing out election results from last year`s parliamentary election, alleging massive fraud.

Special Court Judge Sidiqullah Haqiq says the tribunal has adjusted results from 33 provinces — meaning the control of the 249-seat parliament could be in play with the results.

The tribunal already has announced 13 new members of parliament Thursday morning. Judges continue to announce the results in Kabul.

In one election in Kunduz province, the court said it counted about 20,000 votes for someone marked as receiving zero.

International advisers consider the re-count illegal, but the tribunal says it has the power to overturn results.
