Death toll in blast outside Pak minister`s home touches 5
The death toll in a bomb attack on the home of a provincial minister in southwest Pakistan has risen to five.
Islamabad: The death toll in a bomb attack on the home of a provincial minister in southwest Pakistan has risen to five, officials said on Friday.
Three of the five people were killed instantly while two others succumbed to their injuries later in hospital after a powerful bomb went off outside Balochistan Finance Minister Mir Asim Kurd Giloo`s residence in Quetta yesterday, they said.
All the persons who died were employees and security guards of the minister, who was not at home at the time of the blast.
Police said the blast was caused by an explosive device planted in an SUV parked inside the house.
However, some officials of the bomb disposal squad contended that the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber.
Provincial Communication Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani too said the attack was carried out by a suicide bomber.
He said the attack could have been a reaction to federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik`s announcement on Wednesday that paramilitary forces would be used to carry out targeted
actions against militants in Balochistan.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
