Islamabad: At least eight people were injured Wednesday night in a bomb explosion outside a private hospital in northwest Pakistan's Peshawar city.

The blast took place around 8.20 p.m., Xinhua reported quoting the local Urdu channel ARY TV.

The bomb was placed in a car park outside the Nasirudin Surgical Hospital in Gulbahar area of Peshawar.

The hospital building and many nearby shops caught fire after the explosion, witnesses said. The electricity supply was cut off in the area.

The blast comes after the US consulate in Peshawar earlier Wednesday donated four bomb disposal vans and 100 motorcycles to the police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwar province to boost security.
