Ensure Pak by-polls are fair: Imran Khan tells Army

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has called for Army troops to be deployed at polling booths for Thursday`s by-elections.

Karachi: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has called for Army troops to be deployed at polling booths for Thursday`s by-elections in order to ensure free and fair voting.
The cricketer-turned politician said yesterday that deployment of army troops, both inside and outside polling stations, was a must to make the by-polls a free and fair process.

Election Commission of Pakistan had earlier issued a notification to hold by-elections in 42 constituencies of National and provincial assemblies on August 22 in order to fill the seats vacated by winners of more than one seat in the May 11 general elections.

Khan was apprehensive about the possibility of a transparent elections in the absence of an independent Election Commission.

"We only want that there is no rigging in the next elections," he said.

Khan added that on Wednesday a white paper will be issued on alleged poll rigging during the May elections.

"We appeal to the Chief Justice to take notice of the rigging in the election," he said.
