Karachi: Ashraf Ali Khan, the son of Pakistan's first Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan, on Tuesday passed away here after losing his long battle against cancer.

77-year-old Ashraf, the elder son of the country's first premier from his second wife, had been admitted in a hospital for the last five days.

Born in 1937, Ashraf was merely 14-year-old when his father was assassinated on October 16, 1951 during a public meeting at the Company Bagh in Rawalpindi.

Later, Ashraf remained active in politics under the banner of Air Chief Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan's Tehreek-e-Istiqlal during 1970s, but he quit politics after that brief stint and remained politically unaffiliated for the rest of his life.
