Peshawar: At least five persons were killed and 12 others injured in a gun battle between two tribes in the volatile Kurram region in northwest Pakistan on Tuesday.
The clash took place between members of the Shalozan and Shalozan Tangi tribes, leaving five people dead and 12 injured, sources said.
The two tribes have engaged in gun battles for the past 35 days and a total of 25 people have died so far.
The local administration has failed to broker peace between the warring tribes, elders said.
In a separate development, security forces in the Khyber tribal region defused a time bomb attached to a container transporting supplies to NATO forces in Afghanistan.
Mainpuri, UP: A man arrested on charges of illegally possessing firearms today escaped from police custody in Bhogaon area.
Dinesh Gupta, who was arrested with country-made firearms and cartridges last night, escaped from the lock up of Bhogaon police station, Superintendent of Police DK Rai said.
He said the lock up guard has been placed under suspension and efforts were being made to nab Gupta.
