Islamabad: Five Taliban militants were killed Sunday in clashes with security forces in the restive Swat valley in northwest Pakistan, officials said.
A gun battle erupted at Khareri in Matta sub-division when security forces conducted a raid after receiving information that rebels were present in the area.
On seeing the security forces, the militants opened fire. Two Taliban militants were killed in retaliatory firing by the troops.
In another incident at Gojar Banar in Matta, three militants were killed in retaliation action by security forces after they refused to stop for a search.
Their bodies were later handed over to police.
