20 people have been confirmed dead as floods wreak havoc
in Mardan and Swabi of northwest Pakistan, Geo TV reported
today.

The deaths occurred mainly due to collapse of roofs as a
number of villages were inundated when floods hit the areas,
it said.

A top government official, Khalid Khan Omarzai, in the
affected districts said that the rains flooded drains passing
through villages, sweeping away scores of mud houses and
damaging others.

A large number of the 2 million refugees displaced by
Pakistani army`s offensive against the Taliban in the Swat
Valley and its neighboring districts have taken shelter in the
Mardan and Swabi region.
