Islamabad: Four people, including a
security personnel and three suspected militants, were killed
and six others, including a major, injured when a group of
armed men attacked security forces in Balochistan province of
southwest Pakistan on Friday.

Police officials said three armed men ambushed a group
of security personnel patrolling the National Highway in
Khuzdar area.

A security personnel was killed and six more,
including a major and a subedar, were injured in the exchange
of fire.

All three attackers, identified as residents of Kalat
district, were killed by the security forces.
The injured security personnel were taken to a
hospital in Khuzdar.

Balochistan has witnessed a surge in violence blamed
by authorities on nationalist groups waging a campaign for
greater autonomy.

Security forces have fought gun battles with militants
in several places over the past few days.
